Advisory Group

The principal role of the Advisory Group is to provide wise counsel on specific issues raised, either by the Board or by the CEO. Members of the Group are experienced and connected individuals who can open doors to influencers, potential donors and employees. They have no fiduciary or governance responsibilities. 

Lucy Blythe, HALO Trust

Lucy Blythe

Founder of Philia International, a consultancy specialising in not-for-profit governance and leadership development which also provides philanthropic advice to NFPs, trusts, foundations and individuals. Lucy has led major fundraising campaigns, the NFP/public sector practice of an international search firm and the Kew Foundation. She is currently Trustee and Chair of Governance of Philanthropy Impact, and on their Zurich Advisory Board. She is actively involved in promoting philanthropy in Europe and globally.

Tom Brady Halo Trust

Tom Bradby

Tom is a journalist and novelist best known as Political Editor for ITV News and, more recently, the main presenter of News at Ten. He joined ITN in 1990 as an editorial trainee and subsequently became producer for ITV's political editor Michael Brunson in 1992. Thereafter, he was ITV’s Ireland correspondent before a stint as royal correspondent. He became a presenter in 2012, as host of political discussion show ‘The Agenda with Tom Bradby’ and he took over the role as the main presenter of News at Ten in October 2015.

Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton LVO, MBE, DL recently retired after a decade as Principal Private Secretary to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry. Before this, he trained and designed security solutions for aid workers and journalists working in hostile environments. For 20 years previously he was in the Irish Guards and the SAS. He is a trustee of the Royal Foundation and the Varkey Foundation, a Deputy Lieutenant of Suffolk, and an Honorary Bencher at Middle Temple.

Cindy McCain HALO Trust

Cindy McCain

Cindy is committed to improving the lives of those less fortunate, both in the United States and around the world. In addition to her humanitarian work, she is the chairman of her family’s business, Hensley & Company - one of the largest Anheuser-Busch distributors in the nation. Cindy has travelled to numerous HALO programmes and she played a key part of the HALO’s 25th Anniversary outreach in Washington, DC in 2013, where her husband Senator McCain hosted Prince Harry at a HALO photography exhibition.

Michael Merton, HALO Trust

Michael Merton

Michael is a chartered accountant. He worked for thirty years for Rio Tinto, one of the world’s leading mining companies, during which time he held a number of senior positions and lived in France, the USA, Papua New Guinea and Australia. Michael currently serves on the boards of BlackRock Commodities Income Investment Trust plc and Cape plc, and is chairman of the J Sainsbury Pension Scheme and a trustee of the Universities Superannuation Scheme. He lives in the Chilterns.

Senator Mark Udall - HALO USA trustee

Senator Mark Udall

Mark joined the HALO USA Board in July 2015. He is a member of the Democratic Party and was a US Senator for Colorado from 2009 to 2015 and previously a Member of the US House of Representatives. Mark spent twenty years with Outward Bound as a course instructor and Executive Director. He is married with two children. His interests include mountaineering; he has climbed The Colorado Centennials, and has attempted Everest many times.
