Paramedics, equipped with comprehensive medical packs, are built into the structure of every HALO team.

These paramedics are national members of staff trained to deliver emergency trauma care for victims of landmines and other ordnance. They learn to deal with all aspects of initial care, from the immediate stabilisation of the casualty to safe transport and delivery to hospital.

We maintain a medical board of experienced international surgeons and doctors, including trauma specialists, and paramedic instructors that oversees HALO’s medical policy and ensures its correct implementation.

Members of the board regularly visit each programme to provide training and evaluation, and the board meets annually to discuss lessons learnt from these medical visits and to consider developments in emergency trauma management.
