The ongoing war in Ukraine is threatening lives and livelihoods.
On 24 February 2022, life changed forever for families across Ukraine following the start of the Russian offensive. Homes and streets became the frontline and a devastating humanitarian crisis unfolded.
Over more than 3 years of war entire communities have been destroyed, farmers' fields have become minefields and landmines and explosives are everywhere, threatening lives. Serhii, age 67, lost his wife Luba when she activated a grenade laid on a tripwire whilst walking in the forest near their village.
Families are desperate to return home and rebuild, the fields need sowing so this season's harvest can be grown. Your support can make land safe so reconstruction can begin.
The HALO Trust is the world's largest humanitarian landmine clearance organisation. Our Ukrainian team has conducted mine clearance in the eastern cities of Kramatorsk and Mariupol since 2016. When the invasion began we responded immediately to support those in need, moving our entire operation across the country to Kyiv. Today HALO has over 1,400 Ukrainian staff on the ground. We are working to make land safe across the Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv and Kherson oblasts. We also conduct survey operations in Donetsk oblast and risk education to communities in Dnipro, Donetsk and Odessa oblasts.
