ONEArmenia and The HALO Trust have partnered for the Mine Free Lachin crowdfunding campaign. The two-month campaign aims to raise $96,214 to clear a large minefield in the Lachin corridor, near Meghvadzor village.
The land spans about eight acres, and once cleared, it will be safe for families to go about their daily lives, cultivating the fields and grazing their cattle without fear of life-threatening accidents.
There are 31 minefields remaining to be cleared in Lachin and private donations are critical as no government funding is available in the area outside of the Soviet-era boundary of Nagorno Karabakh.
Thanks to a generous donor, 100% of the contributions to the campaign will go directly to HALO in support of the project and every gift will be matched.
“With the assistance of our generous anonymous donor, there is an opportunity now for ordinary people who want to make a difference to be part of the solution, to see their donation and their impact doubled, and to create safe steps for the future generations of Nagorno Karabakh,” said Ash Boddy, HALO Program Manager in Nagorno Karabakh.
In 2016, HALO launched the Safe Steps for the people of Karabakh campaign with the goal of making Karabakh mine-free by 2020. HALO has cleared 88% of known minefields to date, and 453 minefields, more than 11,000 acres of land, have been made safe since 2000 to the benefit of approximately 125,000 people.
This is the second crowdfunding campaign for HALO in Karabakh (228 donors helped clear Myurishen village in 2016) and the first in partnership with ONEArmenia.
ONEArmenia is a non-profit organization focused on building a sustainable, thriving Armenia. The Mine Free Lachin crowdfunding campaign ends 22nd April.
