Episode 5

  • Making history at the Baptism Site

For over five decades, the eight churches at the Site of the Baptism of Christ on the River Jordan stood empty, cut off by minefields laid during the 1967 Six Day War. In 2016, HALO launched a global campaign to make this historic site safe and, in April 2020, the sky was lit up as the last line of anti-tank mines was destroyed.

For HALO’s final webinar of 2020 we revealed the story of clearing the Baptism Site from those involved; from the challenge of uniting everyone behind the work and the technical obstacles our deminers faced, to the enduring impact for the eight churches and the wider significance for people of all faiths.

Episode 4

  • Cambodia: A Lasting Impact

Cambodia's civil conflict had a devastating impact on its people and left behind a deadly legacy of landmines that has accounted for 64,000 casualties since 1979. For our fourth webinar, Lucy Reeve, Deputy Programme Manager for Cambodia, was joined by members of the Cambodian team Ny Ra, Mao Saratharou and Ron Srey Nak, who gave a personal insight into the impact of Cambodia's conflict and unique stories from their work in the field.

Episode two

  • Medic in the minefield

From the hospital and doctor's surgery, to blast injuries and snake bites. Doctors Jonathan Williams and Gail Ng are part of HALO's medical board and volunteer their time to train our minefield paramedics across the globe.
