HALO and FMC support farmers in Ukraine
In brief
HALO joined FMC at an agricultural event in Ukraine in August to share its agricultural return work and promote the new Farmer’s Toolkit with farmers, strengthening connections to support the country’s agricultural recovery.
Planting the Seeds of Recovery: HALO Meets Ukraine’s Farmers
For farmers in Ukraine, returning to the land is about more than growing crops. It is about rebuilding livelihoods and looking toward the future.
That is why connecting directly with Ukraine’s farming community was such an important part of HALO’s Agricultural Return work.
Recently, HALO joined FMC at a two-day agricultural event in Ukraine that brought together farmers, vendors, and partners. With approximately 500 farmers expected to attend, the event gave HALO a valuable opportunity to introduce more members of the agricultural community to our work and share how we are helping farmers safely return to their land.
During the event, a HALO representative gave a short speech about HALO and our Agricultural Return work, speaking directly to farmers about the importance of helping communities put their land back into productive use.
Putting tools in farmers’ hands
Each participant received a copy of the Farmer’s Toolkit in their attendance packet, giving farmers practical information about returning to agriculture in areas affected by the war.
For HALO, reaching farmers directly was about more than raising awareness. It was an opportunity to build connections with the people who know the land best and make sure they knew that HALO was working alongside them.
FMC’s Ukraine program, “We Cultivate Freedom,” directs a percentage of proceeds from sales in Ukraine toward humanitarian demining.
HALO’s participation in the event was strongly supported by FMC’s Marketing Head in Ukraine, Maksym Yanovsky, and the event highlighted the potential to build on the relationship between FMC and HALO.
The conversations also opened the door to thinking about how the partnership could support farmers in new ways.
Creating long-term solutions
HALO is establishing rapid soil screening hubs in Mykolaiv and Kharkiv. During the event, HALO discussed the concept with Maksym and how the service could provide farmers with soil screening results and recommendations as a first step toward understanding their land.
He expressed strong interest in the idea and in how FMC could potentially support a practical service benefiting farmers in areas where the company operates.
The conversation pointed to an exciting opportunity to develop a broader, longer-term relationship around HALO’s Agricultural Return work.
Helping recovery take root
Ukraine’s farmers are working to move forward, and safe, productive land is an important part of that future.
Every connection with the farming community helps HALO better understand farmers’ needs and find new ways to support their return to the land.
With partners like FMC, there is an opportunity to build something that goes beyond a single event: a lasting partnership that helps farmers reclaim more than fields, but the opportunity to grow, rebuild, and look ahead.
Because when land becomes safe again, recovery can take root.
