Governance

Find out how HALO is governed, including information about our boards, ethical standards and policies.

Our global headquarters are in the UK. HALO USA and HALO Europe are separate entities with their own boards.

We all work together to protect lives and help families affected by conflict to get back on their feet.

How your money is spent

We take pride in delivering the best value from the money you donate.

For every $1 we receive, at least 90c is spent on our operations around the world to help people in need.

This includes:

  • Equipment to detect landmines and explosives

  • Body armor and protective clothing

  • Safety training materials

  • Supplies to respond quickly to natural disasters

  • Medical items

Our board members provide their invaluable insight and expertise to keep us progressing our mission to protect lives and restore the livelihoods of those affected by conflict.

Medical governance

HALO's medical governance is guided by a group of highly experienced NHS professionals. They volunteer their time to support our work in the field.

Our work with explosives is dangerous, but minefield accidents are thankfully rare. We train local staff as paramedics and they play an important role in every HALO team. Their work is governed by standards and policies, which are set by HALO's medical board.

The volunteer board includes surgeons, doctors, trauma specialists, and paramedic instructors. They set the standards across all our programs and develop paramedic training courses. This ensures the health and wellbeing of our staff in the field. We're enormously grateful to them all for their dedication to HALO.

Our paramedics are trained to deliver emergency care for victims of explosives. They learn to handle every step, from stabilizing the casualty, to safely delivering them to hospital. Our paramedics are also responsible for the wellbeing of our program staff, who are often based in remote locations.

Safeguarding

Effective safeguarding is fundamental to our work. As an ethical charity, we make sure not to harm anyone who comes into contact with HALO. We actively protect our staff wellbeing and promote ethical behaviour.

Our values and standards are at the heart of everything we do. We expect all our staff to act with:

  • Moral courage

  • Discipline

  • Integrity

  • Respect for others

  • Loyalty

  • Selfless commitment

We work hard to make sure everything they do is lawful, appropriate and professional.
