HARBOUR ENERGY AND THE HALO TRUST SHARE HAZARDOUS WORKPLACE EXPERTISE

3rd February 2025 | Press release

The HALO Trust, the world’s largest landmine clearance charity and Harbour Energy, the largest London-listed independent oil and gas company, have signed a new collaborative partnership to ensure their employees operate in the safest possible ways.

The partnership will see The HALO Trust and Harbour Energy, whose teams both operate in hazardous environments from active minefields to oil and gas assets, work together for the next five years to pool their vital knowledge and insights on working in tough operating environments.

Harbour Energy’s Senior Vice-President  of Corporate Health, Safety, Environment and Security, Kick Sterkman, said:

"We are committed to the protection and safety of all our people and those we work with, and this partnership provides Harbour and HALO with a unique opportunity to learn from one another and share lessons about the development of a strong safety culture within each other's organisations."

James Cowan, HALO's CEO, said:

"HALO was founded in 1988 at the end of the Cold War, but our operating environment has changed significantly since then. We now live in an increasingly unpredictable and multi-polar world. This means that staff safety protocols must take account of external factors, including the rapid upsurge in global conflicts, climate change, and growing political unrest.

"We are extremely grateful to Harbour Energy for supporting HALO and view this partnership as part of our commitment to ensuring the safety of our 12,000 demining staff. Our locally recruited workforce clear dangerous weapons from over 30 countries affected by conflict and their safety is our top priority."
